Title: Power Aware Server Clusters

Large server clusters tend to be highly inefficient in their energy usage. This talk will be concerned with methods to reduce energy consumption while ensuring reasonable levels of performance. This is typically done by either turning servers off (or on) when appropriate, or controlling the speed of each server. While the model is stochastic in nature, a number of deterministic optimization problems arise related to the stochastic control problem. Several such problems will be discussed in this talk.
