Title: Nonlinear Optimization---Algorithms and Models

In recent years, algorithms and software tools for nonlinear optimization have improved dramatically. In this talk we will review the current state of the art in algorithms for nonlinear optimization and then illustrate the power of the technology by briefly demonstrating a number of different applications including FIR filter design, structural shape optimization, and orbit calculation in celestial mechanics.
